5G Lunch in India

On October 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 5G services in the country. The launch happened at the inaugural ceremony of IMC (Indian Mobile Congress) 2022 which is being jointly organized by the Department of Telecommunications and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI). The 13 cities where 5G networks will be launched first include Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Pune. Bharti Airtel has become the first company to launch 5G services in the country. The company will roll out Airtel 5G Plus Pan India by 2024. Bharti Airtel’s 5G service will be available in select cities from Saturday (October 1). Airtel customers can enjoy 5G services on their existing data plans using the same 4G SIM that is 5G enabled until the rollout is complete. Customers across Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Siliguri, Nagpur, and Varanasi are amongst the first cities to experience the new technology as the leading telecom company continues to construct its Airtel 5G network and complete the rollout. Airtel users can also check for 5G compatibility using the app. An updated Airtel Thanks will feature a 5G banner. Users can locate ‘Airtel 5G Plus is LIVE in India’ from the notifications and check for 5G compatibility in the city. Airtel has announced that it plans to offer 5G service in all major metro cities in India by March 2023. Airtel customers can check for the availability of 5G network through the company’s Airtel Thanks App. Though, users will automatically be notified through the app if their smartphone is 5G- ready. While Airtel is yet to prove the capability of its 5G service, it is claiming that people will get 20 to 30 time’s higher speed than 4G in terms of voice call quality and high-speed internet. Another company Reliance Jio Launch 5G i.e.True-5G services launched and available in four cities – Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Varanasi.
