What is Committee?

The word committee belongs to a group of people or members of an organization or a governing body, individual or a group appointed by an agency or authority.

Few definitions here for understand the term

A committee is a body of one or more persons that is subordinate to a deliberative assembly.

A person to whom a charge or trust is committed — committee in a sentence.

A group of people appointed for a specific function by a larger group and typically consisting of members of that group, a person.

A committee is a group of people who meet to make decisions or plans for a larger group.

Types of Committee: There are three main types of committees: standing, select or special, and joint.

Standing: a permanent committee that meets regularly.

Or Committee with a continued existence, formed to do its assigned work on an ongoing basis.

Example: Budget and finance committees, committee consisting of Members of Parliament.

Standing committees are the only committees that can actually recommend a bill (in Congressional language, that’s called being reported out of committee). They’re also the ones that set funding levels, called authorizations, and they keep an eye on federal agencies and the work they do, a duty called oversight.

Subcommittees are formed by most committees to share specific tasks within the jurisdiction of the full committee.

Select or Special: A select or special committee is a congressional committee appointed to perform a special function that is beyond the authority or capacity of a standing committee.

Committees frequently hold hearings to receive testimony from individuals not on the committee. Hearings may be for legislative, oversight, or investigative purposes. Legislative hearings are those addressing measures before the committee, and they may address many measures on a given subject.

Joint Committee: A joint committee is a committee made up of members of both chambers of a bicameral legislature. In other contexts, it refers to a committee with members from more than one organization.

A suggestion or proposal as to the best course of action, especially one put forward by an authoritative body.

Or a suggestion that something is good or suitable for a particular purpose or job

Or an opinion given by an analyst to his/her clients about whether a given stock is worth buying or not.

Or the action of recommending something or someone.

Or is something advised or suggested.

Recommendation Letter: A recommendation letter or letter of recommendation, also known as a letter of reference, reference letter or simply reference, is a document in which the writer assesses the qualities, characteristics

A recommendation letter is a written reference that offers information about your character. Recommendation letters may include details about your personality, work ethic, community involvement, and/or academic achievements.

Recommendation letters are used by many people for many different occasions. There are three basic categories or recommendation letters: academic recommendations, employment recommendations, and character recommendations.

A committee letter is a composite letter of recommendation that is put together by the Health Careers Advisory Committee here at UCD. In summary, what happens is you the student complete the application process for a letter.  If you give us envelopes addressed to the dental schools, the letter is sent.

Mukherjee Commission A one-man board of Justice Manoj Mukherjee, a retired judge of the Supreme Court of India which was instituted in 1999 to enquire into the controversy surrounding the reported death of Subhas Chandra Bose in 1945
National Commission for Scheduled Castes To investigate and monitor all matters relating to the safeguards provided for the SCs, to inquire into specific complaints on deprivation of rights of SCs to participate and advice on the planning process of socioeconomic development of SCs.
National Commission on Minorities To evaluate the progress of the development of minorities under the Union and States, look into complaints regarding the deprivation of minorities rights
National Forest Commission Review and assessment of existing forest policy, legal frame work on scientific and economic point of examination of current statutes of forest administration and institutions and policy on development and wild life management
National Human Rights Commission Receiving complaint from victim, directions to Government, etc. and rehabilitation to victims
Planning Commission To oversee the 5 years planning program for the economic development etc. in India
Shah Commission Inquire into all the excesses committed in the Indian Emergency (1975 – 77). It was headed by Justice J.C. Shah
National Commission for Women Investigation and examination of all matters relating to safeguards provided for women, take up cases relating to women to other authorities and to look into complaints relating to deprivation of women’s rights
