The Anatomy of a Credit Card

Account Number

• A unique number printed on the card
• Identifies the cardholder’s account
• Usually 16 digits
• Used for online and offline transactions

2️⃣ Expiration Date

• Shows the month and year till the card is valid
• Printed in MM/YY format
• Card cannot be used after this date
• Bank issues a new card before expiry

3️⃣ Chip (EMV Chip)

• A small metal chip on the card
• Stores card information securely
• Reduces chances of fraud
• Used by inserting the card into a machine

4️⃣ CVV (Card Verification Value)

• A 3-digit security code (on the back of the card)
• Required for online payments
• Adds extra protection against fraud
