Operations and Technology

SBI Card uses advanced digital technologies and streamlined operational processes to provide secure, contactless, and rapid credit services. Key technological and operational features include NFC-based contactless payments, HCE (Host Card Emulation) for mobile-based transactions, AI/ML for fraud detection, and RPA (Robotic Process Automation) to enhance operational efficiency.

Technology Infrastructure

  • Contactless Technology (NFC): SBI Card employs Near Field Communication (NFC) for “Tap to Pay” functionality, allowing secure, fast payments at POS terminals. No PIN is required for transactions up to ₹5,000.
  • SBI Card Pay (HCE & Tokenisation): Users can digitize their cards within the mobile app using Host Card Emulation (HCE). Tokenisation ensures that actual card details are never shared with merchants, enhancing security.
  • AI and Machine Learning: The bank employs AI/ML models to improve digital lending and detect fraudulent transactions.
  • Security Features:
    • SIM Binding: Ensures the SBI Card app is used only on the device associated with the registered mobile number.
    • Tokenisation: Secure, encrypted format for transactions.
    • Encrypted EMV Chip: Standard for security, reducing counterfeiting.

API & Cloud Integration: Use of Oracle Cloud-based applications for HR and ERP, and API-based integrations for faster, automated processing.
